Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, expressed serious concern on Thursday over public hardships caused by gas shortages during the peak winter season.
Presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat with officials from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), he emphasized that low gas pressure and prolonged outages were unacceptable under extreme cold. He directed authorities to take immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted supply.
The meeting, attended by members of the Balochistan Assembly, reviewed complaints regarding prolonged outages, reduced pressure, and non-availability of gas in several areas. Citizens have reportedly been forced to rely on firewood due to low gas pressure in key regions.
The Chief Minister also highlighted recent gas-related incidents and instructed authorities to strengthen safety measures to protect human lives. He stressed that negligence or delays by gas companies will not be tolerated.
Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said he had formally conveyed the issue to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif through an official letter, noting that Sui, a major gas-supplying area, continues to face acute shortages.
He urged officials to implement practical solutions to restore normal supply and address complaints promptly. “Excuses, negligence, or delays by gas companies will not be tolerated,” the CM said, directing authorities to provide immediate relief.
The government is expected to monitor gas supply closely, particularly in remote and densely populated areas, to prevent further hardships caused by low gas pressure. Authorities have also been asked to improve reporting systems so residents can quickly notify officials about outages.
Officials confirmed that emergency measures and alternative arrangements are being considered to safeguard public welfare. The Chief Minister reiterated that uninterrupted gas supply is a priority and that proactive steps are necessary to protect families during the harsh winter season.
