Senior Balochistan minister, Zehri, has resigned from his position, citing personal constraints and the inability to fulfill commitments made to the people. In a statement, he explained that a lack of time and other personal constraints prevented him from focusing fully on his ministerial responsibilities.
Zehriโs resignation comes amid speculation of growing differences with Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. Sources indicate that Zehri had repeatedly expressed concern over the provincial governmentโs slow progress on key issues. He reportedly criticized the Chief Minister for not prioritizing the resolution of pressing provincial matters.
The decision to step down followed just one day after a provincial cabinet expansion. In the reshuffle, Pakistan Peopleโs Party (PPP) leader Mir Ali Madad Jattak was appointed as the new Home Minister of Balochistan. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Governor House in Quetta, where Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail administered the oath.
Several high-ranking officials attended the event, including Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Balochistan Assembly Speaker retired Captain Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, provincial ministers, members of the provincial assembly, the chief secretary, provincial secretaries, and other political leaders.
Prior to this appointment, the Home Ministerโs portfolio was held directly by the Chief Minister, who also manages the information ministry. Analysts suggest that the cabinet expansion aims to strengthen governance in the province, especially in the wake of internal differences within the ruling coalition.
Zehri emphasized that his resignation is due to personal constraints rather than political pressure. He stated that stepping down was necessary to allow someone else to focus fully on provincial responsibilities. Observers note that such resignations highlight ongoing challenges within provincial administrations, where personal constraints and political disagreements often affect decision-making.
The provincial government has yet to announce any immediate plans to fill Zehriโs former ministry. Meanwhile, Mir Ali Madad Jattak begins his tenure with a focus on internal security and administrative reforms.
