Bridge Between Punjab and K-P Closed After Suicide Attack in Bhakkar

BHARKAR โ€“ A suicide attack at an inter-provincial checkpost in the Dajal area of Bhakkar district forced authorities to close the Dera Darya Khan bridge connecting Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The incident occurred at 6:45 pm yesterday when a suicide bomber detonated near the checkpost. Two police personnel were killed, and several others were injured in the blast. Officials have called it a serious security breach.

Following the suicide attack, security has been tightened in both DI Khan and Bhakkar districts. Punjab Police blocked the Dera Darya Khan bridge for traffic and started a search operation in the surrounding area.

Commuters and transporters remain stranded due to the bridge closure. An oil tanker driver travelling from Dera Ismail Khan to Muzaffargarh said, โ€œThe road has been blocked since last night. If the closure continues, fuel shortages may hit petrol stations. Wheat and other commodities from Punjab may also be delayed.โ€

Vegetable transporter Umar added, โ€œWe have been stuck since yesterday. Police said the road will reopen once the search operation is complete.โ€

Punjab Police have issued a public warning urging travelers to avoid non-essential trips. Authorities advised that if travel is necessary, commuters should carry valid identification and vehicle documents and fully cooperate with security personnel.

The closure during Ramazan has particularly affected deliveries of essential goods and the daily commute for workers. Authorities confirmed they are working to reopen the bridge safely after ensuring the area is fully secured.

This incident highlights the continuing security challenges along inter-provincial routes. Officials have emphasized vigilance and cooperation from the public to prevent further tragedies. The suicide attack has prompted additional patrolling and monitoring across the region to maintain safety.
