ISLAMABAD – Bangladesh’s Biman Airlines is set to resume direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi, marking a major step in restoring air connectivity between the two countries. The first flight is scheduled to land in Karachi on January 29, 2026.
The airline will initially operate two weekly flights on this route, re-establishing a link that was last available in 2012. According to sources, the announcement has sparked high demand, with early bookings for the flights selling out within hours. Travelers from both Pakistan and Bangladesh have expressed excitement about the convenience of direct travel.
Biman Airlines has opened seat bookings for its Dhaka–Karachi flights, and travel agents report strong interest from business travelers and families alike. The flights are expected to facilitate smoother travel, promote tourism, and enhance trade between the two nations.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan recently granted Biman Airlines permission to operate these direct flights, following government directives. Additionally, a cargo transportation agreement between Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Biman Air was finalized last month, paving the way for efficient movement of goods alongside passenger flights.
Officials say that the resumption of direct flights will reduce travel time, as passengers previously had to rely on connecting flights through third countries. The two-weekly schedule will initially operate on a trial basis, with the possibility of expanding frequency based on passenger demand.
This move is seen as a significant development in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, as air connectivity plays a key role in fostering economic, cultural, and social ties. Industry experts anticipate that the flights will boost bilateral trade and encourage more frequent tourism between the two nations.
