Authorities in Saddar have sealed all shops on the first floor of a commercial building, including the popular Biryani Spot, due to serious fire safety violations. AC Saddar Rana Safiyan led the operation, citing hazardous conditions that posed risks to customers and staff.
Officials reported that Biryani Spot was operating with three heavy-duty gas cylinders without proper safety protocols. During the inspection, authorities also found obstructed walkways and illegal compressor work in the building. Hazardous materials, including chemical thinners, were present without protective measures.
A week ago, the building management had received a formal notice warning them to implement fire safety measures. However, no improvements were observed during today’s inspection. AC Saddar stated that the lack of action left authorities with no option but to seal the premises.
The move comes as part of a broader government initiative to inspect buildings citywide following the deadly Gul Plaza fire. On January 17, 2026, a massive blaze at Gul Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road claimed over 70 lives, including women and children, and caused losses worth billions of rupees. The fire, which lasted more than 32 hours, exposed significant weaknesses in emergency preparedness and building safety standards.
In response to the Gul Plaza tragedy, inspections have intensified, targeting commercial centers, restaurants, and office complexes. Safety officials emphasized that strict measures are necessary to prevent similar incidents.
AC Saddar also warned other business owners that failure to comply with safety regulations could result in immediate closure. He urged the public to report unsafe buildings and noted that protecting lives is a top priority.
The sealing of Biryani Spot serves as a reminder that even popular restaurants must follow strict safety standards. Authorities said the shop can reopen only after meeting all fire safety requirements, including safe storage of gas cylinders and proper evacuation routes.
