Cambridge International has reversed its earlier decision regarding the leaked AS & A Level Mathematics Paper 52 (9709/52). Following a detailed investigation, the examination board has confirmed that students’ original exam answers will now be used for grading instead of assessed marks.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Cambridge informed affiliated schools through a written communication about the updated decision. The board concluded that the leaked paper did not have a significant impact on candidates in Pakistan.
Earlier, Cambridge had announced that the marks for Mathematics Paper 52 would not be used. Instead, it planned to award grades through its assessed marks process after the paper was reportedly leaked before the scheduled examination in administrative Zones 3 and 4.
The decision had created uncertainty among thousands of students who appeared for the examination. Many candidates were concerned that their performance in the exam would no longer determine their final grades.
After completing its review, Cambridge found that the leaked material had limited visibility in Pakistan. Officials concluded that the incident did not significantly influence students’ overall performance in the country.
As a result, the examination board has decided to issue grades based on candidates’ actual answers written during the examination. This means students’ original scripts will now determine their final results.
The updated decision has generated mixed reactions among A-Level students. While some welcomed the restoration of original marking, others questioned why weeks of uncertainty had been created before the final decision was announced.
