Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir warned that any future aggression against Pakistan would have “far-reaching and painful consequences” during a special ceremony marking the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq.
The event was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Saturday. Senior military officials and top defence leadership attended the ceremony.
During his address, CDF Asim Munir said Pakistan achieved a major success during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos with unity, determination, and professional capability. He added that the armed forces and the people of Pakistan stood together during the confrontation.
Marka-e-Haq refers to the 19-day military conflict between Pakistan and India from April 22 to May 10, 2025. The tensions escalated after India launched what Pakistan described as an unprovoked attack during the night of May 6 and 7 following an incident in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Pakistani officials, the 87-hour confrontation included aerial battles, drone warfare, and missile operations. Pakistan claimed that its forces downed eight Indian fighter jets, including Rafale aircraft, and intercepted dozens of drones during the conflict.
The military standoff ended on May 10 after a ceasefire agreement reportedly facilitated by the United States.
At the GHQ ceremony, CDF Asim Munir said the anniversary represented national pride and reflected Pakistan’s strength and unity during difficult times. He stated that the confrontation was not only a military conflict but also a battle of ideologies in which Pakistan emerged successful.
Field Marshal Munir also paid tribute to the martyrs and civilians who lost their lives during Marka-e-Haq. He said the sacrifices of the martyrs were a sacred trust for the nation.
Senior military officials, including Air Chief Marshal Sidhu and Admiral Ashraf, also participated in the ceremony. Floral wreaths were laid at Yadgar-e-Shuhada while contingents from the armed forces presented ceremonial salutes.
Speaking about regional tensions, CDF Asim Munir stated that Pakistan would never compromise on its sovereignty, territorial integrity, or national dignity. He warned that any hostile action against the country would receive a strong response.
He further said that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully prepared against external threats. According to him, modern warfare now includes drones, cyber capabilities, artificial intelligence, and long-range missile systems.
Field Marshal Munir also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts over the past year. He mentioned Pakistan’s role in facilitating peace talks between the United States and Iran and described the country’s diplomacy as balanced and responsible.
Discussing terrorism, he urged Afghanistan to eliminate terrorist safe havens operating from its territory. He also praised the efforts of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies, especially personnel serving in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position on Kashmir, he said no story of Pakistan could be complete without Kashmir. He pledged continued political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Kashmiri people.
