CJP Appointment Delayed Due to PTI Members’ Absence

CJP

The parliamentary committee responsible for appointing Pakistan’s next Chief Justice postponed its meeting on Tuesday after key members from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council failed to attend. The absence of these members has stalled the proceedings, which were meant to review nominees for the position.

The committee, which received three nominees from the Supreme Court Registrar, including Justices Mansoor Ali Shah, Munib Akhtar, and Yahya Afridi, will now send a delegation to engage PTI members and encourage their participation.

A four-member delegation, including Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, and others, was formed to initiate talks with PTI, aiming to resolve the deadlock. The meeting has been rescheduled as efforts to include PTI in the process continue.

The appointment of the next Chief Justice remains critical, with the political climate adding complexity to the process.
