Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has praised the citizens of Lahore for celebrating the Basant festival in a safe and disciplined manner. She said the people fulfilled the government’s expectations by following all rules and safety guidelines during the event.
In her statement, Maryam Nawaz expressed happiness over the peaceful atmosphere in the city. She said Lahore looked joyful, and the celebrations reflected unity and responsibility. According to her, the idea of a safe yet festive Basant was successfully implemented across the city.
She noted that families enjoyed traditional foods while kite-flying competitions continued throughout the day. Colorful kites filled the sky, creating a vibrant scene that captured the spirit of the festival. Maryam Nawaz said this combination of fun and safety represented the true essence of Basant.
The chief minister also highlighted that there were no reports of banned kite strings. She said only approved materials and sizes were used, which helped prevent accidents. Rooftop celebrations were carried out according to official standard operating procedures.
She added that transformers remained protected across Lahore because metallic strings were not used. According to Maryam Nawaz, precautionary measures taken on rooftops proved effective and ensured a safe environment for participants.
The chief minister said the concept of a safe Basant will now be introduced in other cities as well. She believes the successful celebrations in Lahore can serve as a model for future festivals across Punjab.
She also shared details of the medical and emergency arrangements. Around 200 Clinics on Wheels and 21 field hospitals were deployed across key areas, including Liberty and the Walled City. These measures were taken to respond quickly to any emergencies.
Maryam Nawaz reminded the public that the final day of the festival was underway. She urged citizens to continue following safety instructions and remain cautious while enjoying the celebrations.
