Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Punjab Transport Company Headquarters and the EV Command and Control Centre in Lahore today. The event marks a major step toward modernizing public transport in the province.
During her visit, the Chief Minister also toured the state-of-the-art automatic washing plant for electric buses. The fully automated system washes and dries buses while recycling water, making the process environmentally friendly.
Officials briefed Maryam Nawaz Sharif about the modern charging station for electric buses. The 160-kilowatt charging stations, installed by Yutong Company, can fully charge a bus in just 105 minutes. The Chief Minister emphasized expanding green transportation solutions across Punjab.
At the EV Command and Control Centre, the Chief Minister directed authorities to explore new routes for electric buses. She also instructed that the bus charging system be shifted to solar energy as soon as possible to promote sustainable transport.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif sought a timeline for the induction of 1,500 new buses. She directed relevant departments to improve operational arrangements to accommodate growing passenger numbers. She also instructed officials to claim carbon credits under the Green Bus Project.
The Chief Minister appreciated the dedication of Transport Company staff in assisting passengers, particularly special persons. She noted that the launch of green buses has broken ridership records across Punjab, highlighting the success of the initiative.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also expressed her desire to launch Metro Bus Service projects in Faisalabad and Gujranwala soon. She directed that additional buses be added to reduce waiting times and ensure smooth travel for passengers.
