The Secretary of Defence has directed airport authorities to enhance services for passengers, especially returning overseas Pakistanis. The improvements aim to meet international standards and reduce long waiting times.
Officials were directed to increase the number of immigration counters at airports. This measure is intended to speed up processing during peak hours when passengers currently face hours-long delays.
Additional security scanning machines will also be installed to make airport procedures faster and more convenient. The ministry has emphasized that airport administrations must strictly follow the directed instructions to ensure passenger satisfaction.
These actions come after multiple complaints about delays in arrivals and departures of international travelers. Authorities warned that persistent complaints could result in further action against airport managers.
Islamabad International Airport recently received a 3-star rating from Skytrax, the global airport ranking company. This makes it Pakistanโs first 3-star airport. The rating evaluated factors such as passenger amenities, airport management, and service quality.
Dubai Airport also holds a 3-star rating, while Lahore and Karachi airports retained 2-star ratings in the Skytrax assessment. Islamabad Airportโs achievement reflects improvements in facilities, services, and overall passenger experience.
Airport authorities said the directed measures are part of ongoing efforts to modernize airport services in Pakistan. These include faster immigration, smoother security checks, and better amenities for travelers.
Passengers are expected to benefit from reduced waiting times and a more comfortable airport experience. The ministry aims to ensure that Pakistanโs airports keep pace with international standards and provide efficient, high-quality services to all travelers.
