Dense fog disrupts flight operations at Lahore Airport, causing delays to several international departures. Visibility issues have forced airlines to reschedule flights.
A private airlineโs flight PA-474 to Riyadh was delayed by ten hours. Another flight, SV-739 to Jeddah, faced an eleven-hour delay. Similarly, flight PA-410 to Dubai was also postponed by eleven hours due to the thick fog.
The weather has also affected Sialkot International Airport and nearby areas. According to the airport spokesperson, flight operations are partially disrupted because visibility has dropped to just 100 metres. Normally, a minimum of 500 metres is required for safe operations. Officials assured that flights will resume as soon as conditions improve.
Apart from airports, dense fog disrupts road traffic across Punjab. The thick fog blanketed plain areas, including Lahore, on Sunday night and continued into Monday, paralyzing routine life.
Motorway authorities reported closures on several major routes. Motorway M2 from Lahore to Kot Momin has been closed. Entry of heavy vehicles is prohibited on M3 from Faizpur to Jaranwala and M4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakim. Motorway M11 from Lahore to Sialkot is closed for all traffic.
The motorway spokesperson urged drivers to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel. Reduced visibility makes driving dangerous, especially for heavy vehicles and commuters traveling long distances.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Updates on flight operations and motorway conditions are being provided regularly to ensure public safety. Travelers are advised to check schedules and follow official guidance before starting their journeys.
Meteorologists predict that visibility will improve gradually as the day progresses, allowing both flight and road operations to return to normal. Citizens are advised to remain patient and plan their travel carefully until weather conditions improve.
With severe fog affecting both airports and major highways, the public is reminded to prioritize safety during this period of extreme weather.
