Quetta police foiled an attempt to sell government medicines in the black market, arresting the District Health Officer (DHO) of Washuk, officials said.
The DHO was caught red-handed while transporting 30 cartons of government-owned medicines to Quetta using an official vehicle. Police said the medicines were valued at over 10 million rupees.
โThese medicines were intended for poor and needy patients in Washuk district,โ a police spokesperson said. โTheir black-marketing is a serious violation.โ
SSP Operations confirmed that the seized medicines are now in police custody. A case of smuggling and black-marketing has been registered against the DHO.
Authorities said the DHO attempted to profit from expensive medicines supplied by the government, highlighting concerns about corruption and misuse of official resources.
The arrest reflects the governmentโs strict stance against black-marketing of essential medical supplies. Officials emphasized that such acts harm vulnerable communities who rely on subsidized medicines.
Police have vowed to continue monitoring medical supplies and take swift action against anyone involved in black-marketing government resources.
The incident has raised public concerns about accountability in healthcare services. Authorities are reviewing procedures to prevent future misuse of official medicine stocks.
This case comes amid wider efforts to ensure fair distribution of government medicines to districts and rural areas. Law enforcement agencies are coordinating with health departments to strengthen oversight and transparency.
Residents of Washuk and surrounding areas welcomed the police action, hoping it will discourage others from engaging in illegal trade of essential medicines.
The government has reiterated its commitment to protect poor patients and ensure that subsidized medicines reach those in need without diversion or corruption.
