At Mayo Hospital, 64 dog bite cases were treated in December, and 46 more were reported in the first 13 days of January. Among them, 51 were men and 13 were women. Ganga Ram Hospital reported 38 cases in December and 10 additional cases this month.

In Rawalpindi, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took serious notice of the rising dog bite cases. She requested a detailed report from the Deputy Commissioner and directed strict legal action against negligence.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need to ensure the availability of anti-rabies vaccines in all government hospitals. Her intervention followed two fresh dog bite cases reported at the District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi this week. Both victims received the first dose of the anti-rabies vaccine.

Across Rawalpindi district, dog bite cases continue to rise. In December, 391 cases were recorded at various Tehsil Headquarters hospitals. Wah General Hospital reported 90 cases, THQ Hospital Gujar Khan 84, and THQ Taxila 75. Other hospitals reported cases in Kallar Syedan (70), Kahuta (50), Murree (15), and Kotli Sattian (7).

Health authorities have urged the public to remain cautious, vaccinate pets, and report stray dogs to local authorities to curb the growing number of dog bite cases.
