Eight-Day Remand Approved for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

An accountability court approved an eight-day remand for PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a new corruption case on Sunday. This decision came a day after their arrest, following their acquittal in the Iddat case.

NAB Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon confirmed that the couple was taken into custody for a new Toshakhana case. Earlier, an Islamabad district court had accepted appeals by Imran and Bushra against their conviction in the Iddat case, removing the last legal barrier keeping Imran in jail at that time.

Imran Khan’s sentences in two Toshakhana cases were suspended, and he was acquitted in the cipher case by the Islamabad High Court. Courts have also acquitted him in several other cases since his first arrest on May 9, 2023, which led to nationwide riots and a crackdown on him and his party. The Islamabad High Court had previously approved his bail in a £190 million corruption case, citing the completion of the investigation. However, a Lahore anti-terrorism court recently dismissed his pre-arrest bail petitions related to the May 9 riots.
