Electricity Prices Expected To Drop By 65 Paisa Per Unit In Pakistan

Pakistan may see a reduction in electricity costs, as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a fuel adjustment for October 2025. The move could make electricity cheaper by 65 paisa per unit across the country.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to hold a hearing on the CPPA’s application on 27 November. The reduction will also benefit K-Electric consumers under the tariff rationalization mechanism.

According to the CPPA, power distribution companies were supplied with 9.63 billion units of electricity in October. The per-unit cost of electricity during the month stood at Rs 8.71.

In terms of energy sources, 27.36% of electricity was generated from hydel power, while 22.13% came from nuclear fuel. Nuclear power remained the most economical source at Rs 2.17 per unit. Additionally, local coal accounted for 12.76% of electricity, imported coal 4.71%, local gas 9.16%, and imported LNG 19.72%.

Earlier, NEPRA approved the CPPA-G petition for the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for September 2025. This relief of Rs 0.4812 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) was reflected in consumers’ November 2025 electricity bills.

The upcoming adjustment will follow the same procedure and include K-Electric consumers, as confirmed by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) decision on 19 August 2025.

Experts say the reduction in electricity costs is likely to provide some financial relief to households and businesses. The NEPRA hearing will determine the final adjustment and its effective date for consumers nationwide.

This move highlights Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to rationalize electricity pricing and ensure affordable power supply for all sectors.
