An explosion at the Peshawar Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station on Saturday killed one officer and injured two others, according to police officials. The blast occurred during routine duty hours, spreading panic in the surrounding area.
Initial reports suggest that the explosion took place inside the compound of the CTD building, located in the cityβs Tehkal area. Emergency teams and bomb disposal units rushed to the scene immediately after the incident.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the explosion at the Peshawar CTD police station was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) or accidental detonation. Investigators are collecting evidence to determine the exact nature of the blast.
The injured officers were quickly shifted to a nearby hospital, where their condition is said to be stable. Police have cordoned off the area, and security has been tightened across the city following the incident.
Senior CTD officials said that all possible causes, including terrorism, mishandling of weapons, or storage-related issues, are being investigated. The department is expected to release more details after a thorough inquiry.
The explosion at the Peshawar CTD police station underscores the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in the region. Despite multiple operations against militant networks, sporadic attacks continue to pose a threat to public safety.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have expressed condolences over the officerβs death, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.
