Fact Check: No Vape Ban in Punjab Despite Viral Claims

Social media posts claiming a complete Vape Ban in Punjab have recently gained attention online. Many of these posts allege that vaping products, including vape pods, are now illegal and that users could face heavy fines, legal cases, or imprisonment.

However, available legal and judicial records do not support these claims. Reports circulating about a province-wide Vape Ban and criminal penalties appear to be misleading.

Current actions taken by the Punjab government focus on regulation and public health measures rather than a formal legal prohibition. Officials have introduced restrictions and awareness campaigns due to concerns about increasing vape use among young people.

Last year, Punjab authorities launched a crackdown on vaping and e-cigarette products. Several vape shops were reportedly sealed, and restrictions were placed on advertising, sales, and distribution activities.

Despite these enforcement actions, no law has been passed that imposes a complete Vape Ban across Punjab. Legal experts have noted that no existing legislation explicitly prohibits the sale, possession, or use of vaping products in Pakistan.

The issue later reached the courts. More than 70 vape shop owners challenged the government actions in the Lahore High Court. The court granted interim relief and ordered the reopening of sealed businesses.

The court also directed authorities to suspend enforcement measures until proper legislation is introduced. According to court observations, no current law criminalizes vaping products.

Judicial proceedings further highlighted that vaping products continue to be imported through existing federal tax and regulatory systems. This indicates that no formal Vape Ban has been enacted at either the provincial or federal level.

Retail businesses dealing in vaping products can continue operating under general regulations. Existing rules related to age restrictions and public smoking policies still apply.

Government officials have indicated that draft legislation concerning vaping products is under consideration. However, any future Vape Ban or strict prohibition would require formal approval through the legislative process.

For now, claims of a complete Vape Ban in Punjab remain inaccurate. Citizens are advised to rely on official government notifications and verified legal updates rather than unconfirmed social media posts.

The situation may change if new laws are passed in the future, but at present, no enforceable province-wide ban on vaping products exists in Punjab.
