Acting President Chaudhry Latif Akbar administered the oath to Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, who has officially become the new Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The ceremony was attended by senior political figures, including Pakistan Peopleโs Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Faryal Talpur, Governor KP Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah, and other notable leaders.
The change in leadership followed the successful passage of a no-confidence motion against former AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq. In the Legislative Assembly, 36 members voted in favor of the motion, while only 2 opposed it, effectively ending Haqโs tenure and paving the way for Faisal Mumtaz Rathoreโs appointment.
Earlier, the Pakistan Peopleโs Party formally nominated Faisal Mumtaz Rathore as its candidate for Prime Minister, highlighting his reputation as a consensus-driven leader with strong political and institutional experience.
Born on April 11, 1978, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Rathore serves as the Secretary General of PPP AJK and has been a longstanding member of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly. His appointment reflects a focus on stability and collaborative governance within the AJK government.
Political analysts note that Faisal Mumtaz Rathoreโs leadership is expected to strengthen institutional reforms and improve coordination with federal authorities. The PPP emphasized that his experience and political acumen make him well-suited to address the regionโs administrative and developmental challenges.
The oath-taking ceremony was marked by a sense of optimism, with attendees expressing confidence that Rathoreโs government will bring continuity, transparency, and progress to Azad Kashmirโs executive administration.
