ISLAMABAD – Senator Faisal Vawda said on Thursday that Faiz Hameed’s Conviction is only the start of a wider accountability process in the country. He stressed that the punishment given to the former lieutenant general has set a strong example that no one is above the law.
Speaking during a private news program, Vawda said that once the May 9 cases reach their final stage, more strict actions could follow. He claimed that the political party linked to the events surrounding Faiz Hameed’s Conviction is already under pressure and facing legal scrutiny. According to him, “a foundation has now been laid that no individual is bigger than Pakistan.”
Vawda warned that the ongoing May 9 trials could result in a minimum 14-year sentence if the charges are proven. He questioned where the PTI and its founder would stand once the court announces its decision, adding that the legal consequences could be severe.
Talking about his own departure from the party, Vawda said he had repeatedly warned PTI leadership about decisions that could lead to long-term damage. “I kept telling them that there would be no way back, but instead, I was removed,” he said. He added that Faiz Hameed’s Conviction is a sign that the current accountability drive is only at its early stage and will continue to move forward without exceptions.
Vawda also commented on unresolved cases, including the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif. He claimed that the truth behind the case will emerge as soon as former minister Murad Saeed appears before investigators. According to him, this will expose key individuals linked to the tragedy.

Vawda concluded that the accountability system is now gaining momentum and that “no one will be spared” in the ongoing process.
