An initial report on the recent chemical factory explosion in Faisalabad has revealed major safety violations. According to the findings, the factory did not possess a NoC from the federal government. Investigators also noted that explosive material was stored inside the premises without proper handling.
The report states that negligence and unskilled staff may have caused the tragic incident. It also suggests that a gas cylinder leakage or an electrical short circuit could have ignited the chemical stored in the facility. These early observations point to multiple safety lapses that went unchecked.
The deadly blast took place in a chemical factory located in Malikpur, Faisalabad. The district administration confirmed that the victims included children, women, elderly individuals, and factory workers. The scale of destruction has shocked residents, as the explosion was strong enough to damage nearby houses. Several roofs collapsed due to the impact, and the surrounding structures were left in ruins.
Rescue 1122 issued an early statement saying the incident occurred in the morning after the factoryโs boiler exploded. However, the rescue service later revised the cause and linked it to a gas leak. This assessment was supported in a statement released by the office of Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar.
To determine the exact cause, the Director General Industries Punjab has formed a four-member inquiry committee. The team includes the chief inspector boiler, the DO Industries, the deputy chief inspector boiler, and a representative of boiler engineers. They will examine technical details and identify any violations of industrial safety rules.
Police have registered a first information report on behalf of the state. The FIR mentions 20 deaths, with 19 victims identified, and records seven people injured. Authorities say action will be taken once the inquiry committee submits its final report.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about industrial safety measures and regulatory oversight in the region.
