Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a crucial Federal Cabinet meeting after the 27th Amendment was approved by both the National Assembly and the Senate.
During the meeting, the Cabinet approved amendments to all three armed services acts in line with the changes to Article 243. These amendments legally protect the ranks of Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, and Admiral of the Fleet.
The Cabinet also approved the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Services. Legislation will also be prepared for the new role of Commander of the National Strategic Command. Sources said these steps aim to strengthen defense coordination and modernize military hierarchy.
Additionally, the Cabinet gave the go-ahead for a bill establishing the Federal Constitutional Court. The draft legislation will first be presented in the National Assembly and then tabled in the Senate after approval.
Before the Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister met with each federal minister individually to express his gratitude for their support on the 27th Amendment. All ministers welcomed the PM as he entered the meeting hall.
A press release issued after the meeting confirmed that the Cabinet approved harmonization of the Pakistan Army Act, Pakistan Air Force Act, and Pakistan Navy Act with the 27th Amendment. The amendments include the tenure of the Chief of Defence Force and the eventual abolition of the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee after the current tenure ends.
The Cabinet also endorsed decisions from the Economic Coordination Committee meeting held on November 7. Officials emphasized that these steps are designed to meet modern defense requirements and strengthen legal frameworks for national security.
These moves mark a significant step in implementing the 27th Amendment and updating Pakistanโs military and constitutional structures.
