Federal Urdu University VC Lodges Rs50 Million Defamation Case Against Ex Visually-Impaired Clerk

ISLAMABAD โ€“ The Vice Chancellor of Federal Urdu University, Professor Zabta Khan Shinwari, along with other senior officials, has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking Rs50 million in damages.

The petition names Abbas Ali, a former clerk at Federal Urdu University, as the defendant. Abbas Ali became visually impaired in March 2025 and was retired on medical grounds. According to the petition, all his due benefits were paid at the time of retirement.

The lawsuit has been filed by Professor Zabta Khan Shinwari, Dr. Shahid Iqbal, Dean of the Faculty, Khurram Mushtaq, Assistant Registrar of the Faculty of Education, and Adil Sabir, In-charge of Transport and Protocol. They claim that Abbas Aliโ€™s actions have caused serious harm to their reputations.

The plaintiffs argue that the former employeeโ€™s statements and actions have damaged their credibility and standing. They are seeking compensation of Rs50 million to address the alleged defamation and restore their public image.

Officials stated that the case aims to protect the integrity and reputation of Federal Urdu University and its leadership. They emphasized that legal action was necessary to prevent further damage to the institution and its officials.

The university management said that while Abbas Ali had retired legally with full benefits, his recent conduct has created misunderstandings and controversies affecting the senior staff. The defamation suit, they hope, will clarify the matter in court.

Legal experts note that defamation cases involving public institutions are rare but can set important precedents. This case highlights the challenges universities face in maintaining their reputation while ensuring fair treatment of former employees.
