FAISALABAD โ In a major crackdown, the Federal Investigation Agency carried out an FIA arrest of a father and son involved in an international human smuggling network. The suspects were detained from Madina Town during a targeted operation.
According to the Federal Investigation Agency, the arrested individuals have been identified as Muhammad Ahmed and his father, Shahid Hameed. A formal case has been registered against them for their alleged role in human trafficking.
Officials said the FIA arrest is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organized smuggling groups operating across borders. The suspects were reportedly linked to a wider network with international connections.
Investigators revealed that the gang had associates based in Cambodia. These include Sarob Fatima and Faizan. Two travel agents, Umar and Tabish, have also been named in the case. Authorities are working to track down other members of the network.
The FIA stated that victims were sent to countries like Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. Once there, they were allegedly sold to criminal groups. Many victims were forced into online fraud activities and hard labor.
According to officials, the arrested suspects charged large sums of money from victims. In one case, they took $6,000 from a citizen to arrange travel to Thailand. Later, they demanded Rs1.8 million more to secure his return after he became trapped abroad.
The FIA arrest highlights the growing threat of human smuggling networks targeting vulnerable individuals. Many victims are lured with promises of jobs and better opportunities overseas.
Authorities emphasized that such operations often lead to exploitation and abuse. Victims face serious risks, including forced labor and illegal detention in foreign countries.
The FIA urged the public to remain cautious and avoid dealing with unauthorized agents. It also advised citizens to verify travel arrangements through official channels before making payments.
