Four NADRA Officials Arrested for Allegedly Issuing CNICs to Foreign Nationals

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four NADRA officials in Charsadda over allegations of issuing identity cards to foreign nationals, including Afghan citizens.

According to reports, the arrests were made during an FIA raid conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected irregularities in the issuance of national identity documents.

Among those arrested was Assistant Director and Office In-charge Waqar Ahmed. Authorities believe the accused officials may have been involved in facilitating the issuance of identity cards to individuals who were not eligible to receive them.

During the operation, FIA officials recovered important documents and records from the possession of the suspects. The recovered material is expected to play a key role in the investigation.

Officials said a formal case has been registered against the accused. Further inquiries have also been launched to determine the full extent of the alleged activities and identify any additional individuals involved.

According to investigators, NADRA records and documentation are being examined to verify the allegations and determine how the identity cards were processed and approved.

Sources said Waqar Ahmed was already facing scrutiny in several other investigations and departmental inquiries before his arrest. Authorities are now reviewing those cases alongside the latest allegations.

The FIA has not ruled out the possibility of a wider network being involved in the matter. As a result, raids are continuing in different areas to locate and arrest other suspected facilitators connected to the case.

Officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that all evidence is being carefully examined. They said legal action would be taken against anyone found responsible for violating laws governing the issuance of national identity documents.

The case has drawn attention due to the importance of identity verification and national documentation systems. NADRA plays a central role in maintaining citizen records and issuing computerized national identity cards across Pakistan.

Authorities have repeatedly stressed the need for strict oversight to prevent the misuse of official documents and ensure that identity cards are issued only to eligible individuals. The latest arrests are being viewed as part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability and protect the integrity of Pakistan’s national registration system.
