FIFA has officially lifted its suspension on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) following successful constitutional amendments, paving the way for Pakistan to rejoin the global football stage. The ban was revoked after the PFF Congress approved critical amendments proposed by FIFA to ensure transparency and fairness in the federation’s election process.
The decision was made during an Extraordinary Congress held in Lahore, where the amendments were passed, meeting a key requirement set by both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). FIFA announced its decision on March 2, 2025, reinstating PFF’s membership rights.

Shahid Khokhar, a member of the PFF Normalisation Committee, expressed optimism, calling the development a “positive step for Pakistan football.” With the ban lifted, Pakistan can now resume international football activities, including participation in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The PFF is expected to make urgent preparations for its upcoming match against Syria later this month.
This marks the third time FIFA has suspended the PFF in recent years, with previous suspensions in 2017 and 2021, both due to governance issues and third-party interference. The latest ban, imposed in February 2025, came after PFF failed to implement constitutional reforms necessary to ensure fair elections.
With the suspension now lifted, Pakistan is set to make a fresh start in international football, and the PFF is under pressure to maintain transparent governance to avoid further setbacks.
