A Fire broke out in the power van of the Green Line Express near Lakha Road station in the Mehrabpur area on Tuesday, forcing railway authorities to stop the train and begin emergency response measures.
According to railway officials, the Green Line Express was travelling towards Karachi when the incident occurred near Lakha Road in Sindh. The train was immediately halted at Lakha Road railway station after smoke and flames were noticed in the power van.
Railway staff and emergency teams quickly reached the scene and worked to control the Fire before it could spread to passenger coaches or other parts of the train.
Officials confirmed that no passengers or railway staff were injured during the incident. No casualties were reported, and passengers were kept safe during the emergency response operation.
The Railway Administration stated that the situation was brought under control within a short period due to timely action by staff members and emergency personnel present at the site.
Preliminary findings suggest that the ongoing heat wave may have contributed to the incident. Officials explained that extremely high temperatures can affect railway equipment, engines, and power systems, increasing the risk of technical faults and overheating.
Authorities also noted that several similar technical incidents involving railway engines and power vans have recently been reported during the intense summer heat.
The affected power van reportedly suffered technical damage due to the Fire, and repair work started soon after the flames were extinguished. Technical teams were sent to inspect the train and assess the condition of the damaged equipment.
Railway officials said the Green Line Express would continue its journey only after all repairs were completed and safety clearance was issued by the concerned technical departments.
Passengers were temporarily delayed while emergency and repair operations continued near the station. However, officials assured travelers that all necessary safety measures were being followed.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the condition of railway infrastructure and the challenges faced by Pakistan Railways during extreme weather conditions.
Experts say rising temperatures during summer can place extra pressure on electrical systems, fuel equipment, and railway engines. Without proper maintenance and cooling systems, the chances of technical faults and Fire incidents may increase.
Pakistan has experienced severe heat wave conditions in several parts of the country in recent weeks. Authorities have already issued weather warnings advising people to remain cautious during periods of extreme heat.
