ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its official forecast for Ramazan 2026. According to the department, the new moon for Ramazan will be born on February 17, 2026, at 5:15 pm. Based on these calculations, the first day of Ramazan 2026 is expected to fall on February 19, 2026.
The PMD stated that there is a strong chance of sighting the Ramazan moon on the evening of February 18. In Karachi, the moon’s age will be approximately 26 hours that evening. Sunset is expected at 6:25 pm, while the moon will set at 7:24 pm. Meteorologists noted that for a successful moon sighting, the moon should be at least 19 hours old, making conditions favorable across most regions of Pakistan.
Weather conditions could slightly affect visibility in some areas. The PMD forecast partly cloudy skies on February 18 in many regions, which may make moon sighting difficult in isolated locations. However, most areas are expected to have clear conditions suitable for observers.
Authorities and religious scholars have advised citizens to rely on verified moon sighting reports before starting fasts. Local moon committees are expected to announce official sightings for each city, confirming the start of Ramazan 2026.
In addition to the moon sighting, the PMD has reminded citizens to stay updated on daily weather reports, as clouds or rain may temporarily affect visibility. Observers are encouraged to watch the sky during sunset hours for the clearest view.
The announcement of the expected start date of Ramazan 2026 allows families and communities to prepare for the holy month. Traditional activities such as fasting, prayers, and community gatherings will begin in line with the official sighting.
