Four members of a family, including two children, died after inhaling generator fumes in Kabirwala, Khanewal district, officials confirmed on Friday.
The tragic incident occurred in Ada Balochan, under Nawan Police Stationโs jurisdiction. The family reportedly turned on a generator due to a power outage and later fell asleep while it was still running.
Authorities said the room lacked proper ventilation, allowing generator fumes and carbon monoxide to accumulate. The poisonous gases likely caused the family to suffocate. Police are investigating the exact cause of death.
Rescue officials identified the deceased as Muhammad Asif, 30, his wife Nadia Bibi, 24, and their two sons, Muhammad Azim, 8, and Daniyal, 4. Neighbors stated Asif, a milk seller, had used the generator to keep milk cool during load-shedding.
Police arrived at the site shortly after the incident, and legal proceedings are ongoing. Authorities warned residents about the dangers of operating generators indoors without proper ventilation.
Across Punjab, many households rely on generators during prolonged electricity outages. Experts caution that inhaling generator fumes can cause serious health risks, including suffocation and carbon monoxide poisoning.
This tragic incident follows another fatal accident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A gas cylinder blast in Charsaddaโs Tariqabad area killed two young children and left their father critically injured. The explosion caused the house to collapse, highlighting the dangers of indoor use of hazardous equipment.
Officials urged citizens to exercise caution when using generators, gas cylinders, and other fuel-powered devices indoors. Proper ventilation and strict safety measures are essential to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
The Kabirwala incident has left the local community in shock. Authorities continue to investigate and emphasize public awareness campaigns on the dangers of generator fumes and unsafe practices at home.
