Four young girls were seriously injured in a fire incident in Niazi Town, Rawalpindi, on Wednesday. Rescue 1122 reported that the fire caused severe burn injuries, prompting immediate hospitalisation.
The injured girls have been identified as three-year-old Sukaina, four-year-old Ayat, five-year-old Tabeer, and seven-year-old Fariha. All four were shifted in critical condition to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to authorities, the children were left alone in a room while their mother attended to household chores. A heater was switched on in the room, which is believed to have triggered the fire. Smoke and screams alerted the landlord, who rushed to the scene and rescued the girls before the fire escalated further.
“The children were seriously injured and required immediate medical attention,” said a Rescue 1122 official. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and any safety lapses that may have contributed.
In a separate incident last October, four children were seriously injured in a house fire in Kachhelo Goth, Baldia Town, Karachi. Rescuers said the fire was set deliberately by a neighbour with a history of drug abuse. The victims were promptly transferred to a nearby hospital and treated for their injuries.
These incidents highlight growing concerns about fire safety in residential areas, particularly when children are left unattended. Rescue officials have urged parents and guardians to exercise caution and ensure proper supervision of children around heaters, electrical appliances, and other potential hazards.
Authorities continue to monitor the condition of the four girls seriously injured in Rawalpindi, while the investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
