According to initial reports, Shahdadpur police arrested a primary school headmaster, Jam Aziz, on Monday. He allegedly died after being subjected to torture while in custody. The incident has sparked widespread anger and calls for justice from the local community.
Witnesses said the policemen abandoned the teacher’s body at the hospital and fled the scene immediately after. This action further fueled outrage among residents and civil society groups.
“The relatives of the deceased, along with civil society members, staged a strong protest outside the hospital,” DSP Sanghar confirmed. Protesters blocked the area, demanding a transparent investigation and strict punishment for those responsible for the teacher’s death.
Taking notice of the incident, DIG Police Shaheed Benazir Abad ordered the suspension of four policemen, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahdadpur. He also directed a formal inquiry into the matter to determine the exact cause of the teacher’s death and identify all involved officers.
Officials said the investigation will focus on whether proper procedures were followed during the teacher’s arrest and detention. The DIG assured that anyone found guilty of misconduct or abuse of power would face disciplinary action.
