Fuel Price Fluctuations Will the Decline Persist or Is a Surge Imminent

The fortnightly revision of petrol prices in Pakistan is approaching, with a potential reduction expected on October 1. This comes as crude oil prices decline in the global market.

According to sources, petrol prices may drop by Rs 1 per litre, and diesel prices could see a decrease of Rs 3 per litre. However, there remains a slight chance that petrol prices may stay unchanged. The final decision will be announced by the finance minister on September 30 after consultation with the prime minister.

Currently, petrol is priced at Rs 249.10 per litre, while high-speed diesel costs Rs 249.69 per litre. Light diesel is at Rs 141.93, and kerosene is priced at Rs 158.47 per litre.

On September 15, the government had already reduced petrol prices by Rs 10 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs 13.06 per litre. Kerosene oil was reduced by Rs 11.15, and light diesel oil saw a Rs 12.12 decrease.

In the international market, crude oil prices recently fell over 3%. Saudi Arabia is reportedly preparing to increase oil production in December, along with other OPEC members, which could further impact global and domestic fuel prices. This trend may lead to continued price relief in Pakistan in the coming months.
