Full Court Reference for Outgoing CJP Qazi Faez Isa Scheduled for October 25

CJP Qazi Faez

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced a full court reference to honor outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, scheduled for October 25. A letter from the court’s registrar confirmed this date, marking the retirement of CJP Isa, who has served as the top judge of the country.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is set to succeed CJP Isa in this prestigious role. However, there have been recent rumors regarding a potential extension of Isa’s tenure, with discussions about possible amendments to the retirement age for superior court judges circulating within the government.

Opposition parties, particularly the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have vehemently opposed any such extension, with PTI Founder Imran Khan threatening nationwide protests if CJP Isa’s term were prolonged. CJP Isa himself has dismissed the notion of accepting an extension, emphasizing a commitment to institutional integrity over individual interests.

In addition to the full court reference, CJP Isa has accepted an invitation from the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for a farewell dinner scheduled for October 24, the day before his retirement. This dinner will provide an opportunity to acknowledge CJP Isa’s contributions to the judiciary as he prepares to step down.

As the legal community prepares for these events, the focus remains on honoring CJP Isa’s legacy while addressing the ongoing discussions surrounding judicial appointments and extensions.
