1.5kg of Gold Recovered From Burnt Jewellery Shop in Gul Plaza

Rescue authorities have recovered more than 1.5 kilograms of gold from a burnt jewellery shop at Gul Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road, Karachi. The gold was safely returned to the shop owner.

The recovery took place during ongoing search and clearance operations at Gul Plaza. The massive fire, which started late on January 17, claimed at least 71 lives. Several people are still reported missing.

Officials said the gold jewellery, worth over Rs60 million, remained intact despite the intense fire. Some sets were soaked in water but were undamaged. The recovered gold was first handed to the plaza administration and later returned to the owner, who expressed gratitude to the authorities.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassan Ali stated that the search operation continues in the basement of Gul Plaza. Some cash and parts of a DVR system were also recovered. The hard disk has been sent for forensic analysis to aid the ongoing investigation.

Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi confirmed that over 90 percent of the building has been cleared. He added that debris removal from sensitive areas is being done cautiously. The search operation is expected to conclude soon.

Authorities have compiled a list of 82 individuals associated with the burnt jewellery shop and nearby premises. Families of missing persons are urged to report if anyone remains unaccounted for. So far, 71 bodies have been recovered, while efforts continue to find 10 to 11 missing individuals.

The recovery from the burnt jewellery shop highlights the careful handling of valuable items despite the fireโ€™s devastation. Rescue teams continue working with civil authorities, ensuring safety while clearing the debris. Forensic teams are examining the recovered DVR to determine the cause of the blaze.
