The federal government has strongly denied recent claims suggesting tensions between the civilian leadership and the military. Officials stated that there is no civil-military rift, and labelled the circulating rumours as “baseless” and “misleading.”
Dr Tauqir Shah, former principal secretary to the prime minister, said there is no civil-military rift and rejected all speculation appearing on social media and in some political discussions. He said there was “no truth in any of the rumours” about disagreements between the government and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Responding to reports of a delay in official notifications concerning the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Dr Shah clarified that no administrative matter was being held up due to conflict. He stressed that the working relationship between both sides was smooth and fully coordinated.
Dr Shah added that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif continues to respect Field Marshal Asim Munir. He said Nawaz Sharif has often praised the field marshal’s professionalism, service, and commitment to the state.
He also pointed out that Nawaz Sharif voted in favour of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which he said reflected the former prime minister’s strong support for institutional stability and the military’s leadership role.
Calling the rumours “mischief and rumour mongering,” Dr Shah said such narratives only create confusion at a time when national unity is needed. He emphasised that the elected government and the military leadership share a rare level of harmony and are fully aligned on major national priorities.
