All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) has announced a protest march in Islamabad on January 26. The demonstration is against the federal government’s privatization plans and proposed pension reforms.
The protest march will begin at 11 am from the Ministry of Finance and proceed to the Parliament House. Employees from federal ministries, divisions, and other departments across the country are expected to participate. The march aims to highlight the concerns of government workers regarding job security and retirement benefits.
AGEGA has strongly rejected the government’s privatization policies. They have demanded the regularization of daily wage and contract employees. The alliance also expressed full support for government employees in Balochistan, emphasizing solidarity across provincial borders.
This is not the first major protest by government employees. In February 2025, thousands gathered outside Parliament House in Islamabad for a sit-in. The demonstrators demanded salary increases, pension protection, and a halt to the privatization of public institutions.
The upcoming protest will include employees from all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. Workers from federal ministries, divisions, and institutions will join to show nationwide unity. The organizers stressed that the march is peaceful and aims to urge the government to address financial hardships faced by employees.
Officials and AGEGA leaders have called on the authorities to take immediate action. They highlighted that privatization and pension reforms without proper consultation could worsen employees’ economic conditions. The protest is expected to draw significant attention from policymakers and the public.
The alliance has assured participants that all safety measures will be observed during the march. Law enforcement and traffic authorities have been instructed to facilitate the protest and manage traffic along the route
