The Sindh government has registered a case over the deadly Gul Plaza fire incident. The FIR has been filed with the government as complainant, and a sealed copy has been maintained.
The FIR did not name any individual as responsible, listing the unknown accused instead. Officials said the fire resulted from negligence and lack of safety measures in the mall.
โThe lights in the market turned off, causing difficulties for people inside the building,โ the FIR read. Several gates were locked, which further aggravated the situation. The names of responsible persons will be added to the FIR after investigation.
Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, announced the registration of the case. Authorities emphasized that the unknown accused will be identified through technical investigations and witness accounts.
A search operation at the fire-wrecked Gul Plaza at M.A. Jinnah Road has been underway for eight days. The blaze, which broke out on January 17, claimed multiple lives, with 77 people still untraced.
A technical and investigation team, along with Deputy Commissioner South, inspected the ground floor of the devastated building. Officials stated that 90 percent of the search operation has been completed. Urban Search and Rescue 1122 teams are actively involved in the effort.
So far, 71 bodies have been recovered, with 15 identified. Many individuals remain missing as the search continues. The building remains structurally unstable, requiring careful clearing of debris.
Authorities, supported by the Army, Rangers, and civil officials, are conducting the operation while engineers assess structural damages. The investigation aims to find the unknown accused responsible for the tragedy and ensure accountability.
The fire at Gul Plaza has left Karachi in shock, highlighting the urgent need for strict enforcement of fire safety regulations. Officials said all leads will be pursued to hold the unknown accused accountable.
