Families Desperately Search for Loved Ones After Gul Plaza Fire

Family members continue searching for loved ones following the tragic Gul Plaza Fire in Karachi. Several shopkeepers, buyers, and four women remain unaccounted for, raising fears that more casualties may occur.

The deadly blaze broke out late Saturday night at the shopping mall on MA Jinnah Road. Officials confirmed at least six people have died, but many remain trapped inside as rescue operations continue. Authorities warn that the death toll could rise.

One mother, still in shock, said she learned her young son was missing around 9 a.m. “My young son… there is no information about him,” she cried. Her other son had called to inform her of the disappearance. Many families are experiencing similar anxiety outside the Burns Centre at Civil Hospital, waiting for news of missing relatives.

A man searching for six family members said they had visited Gul Plaza for wedding shopping and were last contacted around 10:10 p.m. while on the second floor selecting utensils. Another woman reported that her husband, a shopkeeper at the mall, and two children working with him are still missing.

In response to the tragedy, district authorities and South Zone Police have established dedicated helplines to provide timely updates and assistance. Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi, urged citizens to report missing persons or provide information regarding the Gul Plaza Fire.

The helpline numbers provided by the DC South office are 0313-5048048, 021-99206372, and 021-99205625. South Zone Police have also set up helplines at 021-99205670, 021-99201196, and 021-99205691 for guidance and information.

Authorities emphasized that families should use these helplines for accurate information to support relief and rescue efforts. Meanwhile, emergency teams continue to work tirelessly to control the fire and search the building for survivors.
