Three police personnel were martyred on Tuesday when terrorists opened fire on a security checkpost in Hangu, officials confirmed. Police responded immediately and shot dead one of the attackers during the exchange of gunfire.
The attack took place at the Qazi Talab checkpost on Shaho Road. The location falls under the jurisdiction of the Hangu City Police Station. According to officials, multiple armed men launched the assault, which led to a fierce gun battle between both sides. Several people, including some attackers, also sustained injuries during the incident.
District Police Officer Khanzeb Khan said the police team defended the area with courage. He added that their timely action prevented a larger tragedy. The bodies of the martyred officers were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for further procedures.
The violence comes at a time when security forces across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are already on high alert. The region has witnessed a rise in militant activity in recent months, forcing authorities to intensify patrols and strengthen surveillance. In a separate development, security agencies reported progress in identifying the terrorists involved in an earlier attack on an FC headquarters.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the latest assault. He said the government will not tolerate attacks on the police. โThe perpetrators of this act of terrorism will be dealt with decisively,โ he stated. He also expressed solidarity with the families of the fallen personnel, assuring them of full support.
The attack in Hangu has once again highlighted the threats faced by law enforcement in the province. Authorities say operations against militant networks will continue. They also stressed the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
Officials noted that the situation in Hangu remains tense but under control. Security teams have increased vigilance in nearby areas to prevent any further attempts by militants.
