Several homes were flooded in Pahlipora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday after heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging, prompting emergency rescue and relief operations.
According to officials, rainwater entered multiple residential houses, disrupting daily life and forcing residents to seek assistance as water levels rose.
Police personnel, supported by teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), reached the affected area and began evacuating residents. Rescue teams also started relief efforts to assist families impacted by the flooding.
Officials said work was continuing to move affected residents to safer locations where necessary. Teams were also working to drain accumulated water from flooded areas and assess the extent of the damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
Authorities urged the public to rely on verified information after reports circulated on social media suggesting that a cloudburst had caused the flooding. Officials said there was no official confirmation of a cloudburst, adding that the exact cause of the inundation was still being investigated.
The incident highlights the challenges posed by intense rainfall in vulnerable areas, where waterlogging can quickly affect homes and essential services. Damage assessments and relief measures are expected to continue as authorities monitor the situation.
