The Higher Education Commission has opened applications for the Commonwealth Scholarships 2027-28.
The program offers opportunities for Pakistani and Azad Jammu and Kashmir nationals. Applicants can seek funding for master’s and PhD studies.
HEC is running the program with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom. The online application deadline is October 20, 2026.
The scholarships are available for the 2027-28 academic session. Interested candidates must meet both HEC and scholarship-specific eligibility requirements.
For master’s applicants, a first-division bachelor’s degree is required. The degree must represent 16 years of education in the relevant field.
PhD applicants need a first-division master’s, MS or MPhil degree. Their qualification must represent 17 or 18 years of education.
Candidates must not have a second or third division in their latest degree. Those awaiting results can also apply under certain conditions.
Such candidates must obtain their final degree and transcript before the academic session starts. The session is expected to begin in August or September 2027.
Applicants must also meet the separate requirements set by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. These requirements depend on the selected scholarship and study level.
There is no upper age limit for applicants under the announced program. However, candidates must hold Pakistani or AJK nationality.
Applicants must also be permanent residents of Pakistan or AJK. Dual nationals are not eligible for these scholarships.
HAT Score Required for Applications
Applicants must provide a valid Higher Education Aptitude Test score. A minimum HAT score of 60 out of 100 is required.
HEC will accept eligible HAT tests taken on or after October 25, 2024. Only specific HAT categories qualify for the scholarship nomination process.
These include HAT-I, HAT-II, HAT-III and HAT-IV. HAT tests taken specifically for admission to Pakistani universities will not qualify.
Candidates should carefully review the requirements before submitting their applications. They should also prepare the required academic documents and supporting information.
The Commonwealth Scholarships provide Pakistani students with an opportunity to pursue higher education in the UK. Successful candidates will study under the terms of their selected scholarship.
HEC has advised applicants to follow the official application instructions. Candidates should check all eligibility conditions before completing the online form.
The final deadline for submitting applications is October 20, 2026. Late applications are unlikely to be considered under the announced schedule.
