In a recent development, Islamabad’s top law enforcement officials faced a sudden shakeup. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Akbar Nasir Khan, and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, found themselves relieved of their duties. The decision came following directives issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), responding to complaints filed by political parties in anticipation of the 2024 general elections.
The Establishment Division promptly confirmed their removal through an official notification. Additionally, a letter authored by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, addressed to the Secretary of the Establishment Division, sought the recommendation of a new panel of officers to fill the vacancies for the roles of Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Islamabad.

Concurrently, the caretaker prime minister forwarded a summary to President Arif Alvi, proposing the removal of Ahad Cheema from his position as an aide.
