The Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismisses a petition concerning alleged harassment of PTI leaders. The court accepted assurances given by Islamabad Police officials.
Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas heard the case. SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza and DSP Legal Sajid Cheema appeared before the court.
The police officials denied allegations of harassment against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders. They assured the court that such actions would not take place in the future.
The officials also said police would act according to the law. They said legal procedures would be followed if a person faces an FIR.
The court dismisses the petition after receiving these assurances from the police authorities. The development came amid concerns over alleged raids on homes of PTI leaders.
The petition was filed by PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen. He argued that police were conducting raids at the homes of party leaders.
Shaheen maintained that such raids could not take place without proper legal authority. He asked the court to prevent police from violating household privacy.
The petitioner also sought protection for the sanctity of homes. The plea raised concerns about alleged police action against PTI members.
The case comes ahead of PTI’s planned September 27 protest and long march. The party has announced the protest as part of its political campaign.
Earlier, the IHC had restrained authorities from harassing or arresting PTI leaders. Malik Amir Ali, Shoaib Shaheen and others were among those named in the proceedings.
During an earlier hearing, the court had sought the appearance of senior Islamabad Police officials. The proceedings focused on allegations of raids and harassment ahead of the planned protest.
The latest hearing ended after police officials gave assurances about their future conduct. The officials maintained that any action would follow the law.
The court’s decision comes as security preparations continue in Islamabad. Authorities have taken several measures ahead of the September 27 PTI protest.
The IHC has also issued separate directions concerning political protests and citizens’ fundamental rights. In a recent detailed judgment, the court addressed concerns about disruptions caused by protests.
The court has stressed that political activities must remain within constitutional and legal limits. At the same time, the current petition focused on alleged harassment of PTI leaders.
The dismisses decision followed the police assurances presented during the hearing. The case highlights ongoing legal proceedings surrounding PTI leaders and preparations for the September 27 protest.
