The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday transferred District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhary and posted her as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
According to a notification from the IHC Registrar, Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar ordered the transfer of Zeba Chaudhary, a BPS-21 officer serving as Judge of the Special Court (Offences in Banks), to the Islamabad High Court.
The notification states that she has been posted as an OSD in the IHC establishment with immediate effect, in the public interest. Judge Zeba Chaudhary has been directed to assume her new responsibilities without delay.
Judge Chaudhary previously gained attention as the presiding judge before whom Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan apologized in 2023.
In August 2022, Imran Khan criticized the police and judiciary over the alleged custodial torture of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill. He had announced that his party would file cases against then Inspector General of Police Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the Deputy Inspector General, and Zeba Chaudhary.
Following these remarks, Imran Khan was booked under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The Islamabad High Court also initiated contempt of court proceedings against him. Subsequently, he tendered a formal apology before the court in 2023.
The IHC’s transfer of Zeba Chaudhary highlights ongoing administrative reshuffles in the judiciary. Officials said such postings are part of routine measures to ensure smooth judicial operations and maintain the efficiency of court management.
Observers note that the move does not affect her status as a senior judicial officer but reflects the IHC’s efforts to reassign key personnel to different responsibilities. The transfer and OSD posting of Zeba Chaudhary come into effect immediately, according to the court notification.
