Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has backed Babar Azam following his omission from the T20I squad against New Zealand, questioning the decision to alter his batting position and drop him from the team.
Babar, who was pushed to open in the absence of Saim Ayub, struggled in the role before being dropped alongside ODI skipper Muhammad Rizwan. Imad criticized calls for Babarโs exclusion from ODIs, highlighting his unmatched consistency in the format.

โPeople want Babar Azam out of ODIs too. Nobody has achieved what he has in ODI cricket,โ Imad said, emphasizing the need for stability in selection.
He also questioned the logic behind forcing Babar to open in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. โWhy would you suddenly make him open? Donโt we have any other opener in the whole country?โ he asked.
Babarโs exclusion has fueled debate, especially after Pakistanโs heavy defeat in the first T20I against New Zealand.
