Breaking Imran Khan to Be Transferred to Islamabad Jail, Says Interior Minister

Former Prime Minister and Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, will be shifted to Islamabad’s new jail once construction is complete. The facility is expected to be ready within the next two months.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the development, saying the new jail will be fully equipped with medical services for all inmates. “Since Imran Khan was sentenced by an Islamabad court, he will be transferred as soon as the facility is ready,” he stated.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns about Khan’s health. PTI leaders have alleged negligence by the former superintendent of Adiala Jail, Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, in providing proper care.

Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, assured that Imran Khan would have access to any doctor for an eye check-up. He added that claims of four months of medical negligence are baseless and urged political parties not to politicize the matter.

Khan currently suffers from severely reduced vision. Lawyers told the Supreme Court he has only 15% eyesight in his right eye due to a blood clot. He reportedly experienced blurred vision months ago, but prison authorities initially provided only eye drops.

The court has now allowed Imran Khan to consult his personal doctors while in Adiala Jail. He can also communicate with his sons by phone. His current cell has basic furniture, a non-working TV, and limited amenities. Summer heat and insects reportedly add to his discomfort.

Imran Khan faces over 100 charges, many of which he claims are politically motivated. His arrest in August 2023 sparked mass protests and clashes with authorities across the country.

The upcoming transfer to Islamabad Jail has intensified scrutiny over how the government handles high-profile political prisoners. Observers are closely monitoring arrangements for Imran Khan in the new facility, especially given his ongoing medical concerns.

Authorities say the transfer aims to ensure better medical care and secure accommodation for the former prime minister, while maintaining law and order in the capital.
