Government May Send Imran Khan Abroad for Treatment, Says Tariq Fazal

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said on Thursday that the government would allow Imran Khan to travel abroad for treatment if needed. He made the statement during a Samaa TV programme, Nadeem Malik Live.

Chaudhry emphasized that the government has no objection if Imran Khan chooses to receive treatment at Shifa International Hospital. He added that the former prime minister should undergo any necessary medical examinations.

He clarified that there is no personal enmity with Imran Khan and that the priority remains the founderโ€™s health. Chaudhry noted that there are possibilities of reversible or repairable treatment for Imran Khanโ€™s eye condition, and full treatment could potentially resolve the issue.

This statement follows the second medical report regarding Imran Khanโ€™s condition. According to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), his eye condition has improved after treatment. Chaudhry also dismissed claims made by lawyer Salman Safdar, saying he is not qualified to issue medical reports.

He added that Imran Khan was transferred to PIMS at his own request and was examined daily by medical staff.

Retired Major General Rehmat Khan, president of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, said the hospital treats all patients equally. He confirmed that it provides care to ordinary prisoners and even Afghan nationals, adding that the hospital is not involved in politics. Rehmat Khan said that while he did not know the exact nature of Imran Khanโ€™s eye condition, the hospital has all facilities to treat eye diseases effectively.

PTI leader Mohammad Humayun Mohmand criticized the authorities, saying that Imran Khan repeatedly reported a decline in his vision, but no action was taken. He described the lack of timely treatment as a crime committed by federal and Punjab governments and accused them of deliberately harming Imran Khan.

The governmentโ€™s statements show a willingness to prioritize Imran Khanโ€™s health while confirming that all necessary facilities for treatment are available both locally and abroad.
