Internal rifts have reportedly intensified within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over fund management and internal committee matters. Sources say the party founder had not directed the creation of a new political committee but only suggested minor adjustments.
Questions have emerged over PTI Secretary General Salman Akram, who contested the Bar Council election while holding his party position. Party insiders indicate that Qazi Anwarโs resignation is linked to Salman Akram placing his own name at the top of a committee list.
Concerns have also been raised about missing party funds. Sources claim more than Rs30 crore sent by overseas supporters for legal fees of the party founder and other detained leaders cannot be fully accounted for. PTI parliamentarians are now being asked to contribute Rs100,000 per month, prompting questions about the management and allocation of the previous funds.
Parliamentarians have demanded clarity on which NGO received the overseas contributions and who oversees it. Some lawmakers have stated they cannot provide further funds until a proper accounting is presented.
Further reports suggest that while serving as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, Ali Amin Gandapur had been managing legal expenses for the party founder and other detainees. However, after stepping down, the flow of funds from the province reportedly stopped, adding to internal tensions.
The ongoing disputes highlight the growing internal rifts within PTI, which may affect party cohesion and decision-making. Party sources say these issues are creating challenges for leadership and fundraising efforts.
Analysts suggest that addressing these internal rifts is critical for PTI to maintain unity, especially with ongoing legal and political challenges facing the party leadership.
