BAGHDAD: Iraq has opened talks with the United States over an exemption for Iranian airlines affected by a recent ban.

The flights are also important for Iraqi students studying in Iran. Patients from Iraq also depend on these services for medical treatment.
The sudden restrictions have created difficulties for many travelers. Several Iraqi passengers reportedly struggled to find alternative arrangements.
Some patients feared they could lose access to essential medical care in Iran. Others were reportedly stranded and unable to return by air.
Some travelers now face lengthy journeys by road. The trip back to Iraq can take more than 12 hours.
US Restrictions Affect Iranian Carriers

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Iranian airlines would be “shut down” on Wednesday. The announcement was followed by increased travel disruptions.
