Ishaq Dar Returns from Beijing, Co-Chairs 7th Pak-China Strategic Dialogue

ISLAMABAD – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar returned to Pakistan on January 5 after a successful three-day official visit to Beijing, the Foreign Office confirmed.

During his visit from January 3 to 5, Ishaq Dar became the first foreign minister to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in 2026. The two leaders co-chaired the 7th Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue, reviewing bilateral cooperation across economic, development, and diplomatic sectors.

The dialogue covered key areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and regional security. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the long-standing strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.

Ishaq Dar also held meetings with China’s Executive Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, as well as Liu Haisheng, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, and Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA). These discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in economic development and technical cooperation.

In addition, Ishaq Dar met Xu Jiqing, Vice President of China Minmetals Corporation (MCC), to explore investment opportunities and joint projects in Pakistan. Officials described these talks as vital for strengthening economic ties under the framework of the strategic partnership.

The visit also marked the official launch of events celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The Foreign Office noted that the commemorative events underscore the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Officials emphasized that the 7th Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue not only addressed current bilateral issues but also set the stage for future collaboration in trade, technology, infrastructure, and regional development.

The delegation returned with agreements and proposals aimed at furthering economic and development cooperation, reinforcing the importance of the Strategic Dialogue as a platform for high-level decision-making.
